Pamela Anderson: Life’s a Beach

[pamela-anderson-beach-3319-4.JPG]

Always up for a little fun in the sun, Pamela Anderson spent the day at a Malibu beach with a gal pal on Wednesday afternoon (March 31).

Fixated on mending what looked like a pair of board shorts, the buxom blonde basked up the rays while her companion flipped the bird at nearby paparazzi.

In related news, Pammie recently announced that she’ll be teaming up with designer Richie Rich for a line of environmentally-friendly fashion.

With Miss Anderson attending Richie’s fashion show in Miami over the past weekend, the two will be creating a line that’s “vegan and features leather-free shoes and casual clothes, including hooded tops, skirts and swimwear for the new Muse brand.”

Talking about the line, Pam says: “I really don’t like to wear clothes. I would rather go naked. But I love Richie’s designs, so I agreed to be part of Muse.”

April Fools worm

Remember the dire predictions surrounding the "millennium bug?" The doom-and-gloom scenarios bandied about by security analysts on how computers could act when their clocks turned to January 1, 2000?

Well, researchers are hoping that a potential April Fools' time bomb -- the Conficker.c that is supposed to hit computers on April 1 -- turns out to be equally unfounded.

But realizing that hope alone is not a prudent option, here is a primer on the worm so you can adequately prepare yourself -- and your computer.

What is Conficker.c and what do analysts fear it may do?

Conficker.c is a worm, a malicious program thought to have already infected between 5 million and 10 million computers.

Those infections haven't spawned many symptoms, but on April 1 a master computer is scheduled to gain control of these zombie machines, said Don DeBolt, director of threat research for CA, a New York-based IT and software company.

What happens on April Fools' Day is anyone's guess.

The program could delete all of the files on a person's computer, use zombie PCs -- those controlled by a master -- to overwhelm and shut down Web sites or monitor a person's keyboard strokes to collect private information like passwords or bank account information, experts said.

More likely, though, said DeBolt, the virus may try to get computer users to buy fake software or spend money on other phony products.

Experts said computer hackers largely have moved away from showboating and causing random trouble. They now usually try to make money off their viral programs.

How does the Conficker.c work?

Conficker.c imbeds itself deep in the computer where it is difficult to track. The program, for instance, stops Windows from conducting automatic updates that could prevent it from causing damage.

The program's code is also written to evolve over time and its author appears to be making updates to thwart attempts to neuter the worm.

Who wrote the program?

It's unclear who wrote the program, but anti-work researchers -- a group calling itself the Conficker Cabal -- are looking for clues.

First, they know that some recent programs have come from Eastern European countries outside the jurisdiction of the European Union, said Patrick Morganelli, senior vice president of technology for Enigma Software.

Worm program authors often hide in those countries to stay out of sight from law enforcement, he said.

In a way, the Conficker Cabal is also looking for the program author's fingerprints. DeBolt said security researchers are looking through old programs to see if their programming styles are similar to that of Conficker C.

The prospects for catching the program's author are not good, Morganelli said. "Unless they open their mouth, they'll never be found," he said.

So, the most effective counter-assault simply may be damage control.

How can I tell if my computer's infected?

One quick way to see if your computer has been infected is to see if you have gotten automatic updates from Windows in March. If so, your computer likely is fine, DeBolt said.

Microsoft released a statement saying the company "is actively working with the industry to mitigate the spread of the worm."

Users who haven't gotten the latest Windows updates should go to http://safety.live.com if they fear they're infected, the company's statement says.

People who use other antivirus software should check to make sure they've received the latest updates, which also could have been disabled by Conficker.c.

How did the worm evolve?

The first version of Conficker -- strain A -- was released in late 2008. That version used 250 Web addresses -- generated daily by the system -- as the means of communication between the master computer and its zombies.

The end goal of the first line was to sell computer users fake antivirus software, said Morganelli.

Computer security experts largely patched that problem by working with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to disable or buy the problematic URLs, he said.

A second variant, Conficker.b, was released in January and infected millions more machines.

The Conficker, strain C, will generate 50,000 URLs per day instead of just 250 when it becomes active, DeBolt said.

What is being done to fight Conficker?

Members are searching for the malicious software program's author and for ways to do damage control if he or she can't be stopped.

They're motivated in part by a $250,000 bounty from Microsoft.

Jennifer Aniston acting like a bitch? Inconceivable!

[gallery_main-0331_jennifer_aniston_baster_01.jpg]

Jennifer Aniston isn't making any "friends" on the set of her new movie The Baster. And in related news, I'm going to dive into traffic for writing that last pun.OK! Magazine reports:

"In the morning, the cast and crew had to wait to start filming without Jen because she asked for extra time to finishing blow-drying her hair," reveals one source.
And when the lunch bell rang, not only did Jen not deign to eat her Cobb salad in the company of her new co-workers, she actually had herself driven to her trailer so she could eat alone!
"Jen refused to walk even a step outside the restaurant during the break for lunch," says an insider. "She had her car pull up right next to the restaurant so she could be driven less than a block to her trailer to avoid photographers."

[gallery_main-0331_jennifer_aniston_baster_06.jpg]

Although, in her defense, Jennifer Aniston did just break up with a guy who'd rather Twitter than stick his penis in her vagina, so maybe we should cut her some slack. But not until I finish tweeting about my breakfast: "just ate a Pop Tart. they're my favey's!!!1 :D" Okay, done.

Megan Fox has hair.

[gallery_main-0331_megan_fox_salon_00.jpg]
It's been four long days since I've posted about Megan Fox, so here are shots of her leaving the hair salon last night. Sure, I could cover things like black president guy and the moneys, but c'mon. Megan Fox + Haircut = Hardest hitting journalism on the planet. Frankly, I'm surprised Clark Kent hasn't swooped down and handed me a medal. Or whoever it was that invented newspapers. Garfield?

Lady GaGa is Fan Friendly

[6825_435_thumb.jpg]
Lady GaGa (a.k.a. Stefani Germanotta) has come out of nowhere over the past year and suddenly you can't turn on the radio without hearing her music or open a magazine without seeing her face half covered by big sunglasses. But apparently she hasn't let any of this go to her head, as she's still more than willing to go the extra mile for her fans.
“I feel embarrassed saying this but the strangest thing I ever autographed was a man’s penis,” she laughs.

The 23-year-old “Just Dance” star was left red-faced singer when a smitten admirer made the X-rated request following a performance in Canada.

[6837_435_thumb.jpg]

“I was doing a meet and greet backstage in Canada. I had enough room to write Lady GaGa but I don’t really remember. I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe. Maybe it is still there - who knows? It was a permanent marker too!”

You know, this really pisses me off. I tried the exact same thing at a Miley Cyrus concert and now her legal team is throwing around phrases like "restraining order" and "sexual predator." Whatever, sometimes a guy just wants an autograph on his penis. I guess they're just a little more relaxed up in the Great White North than down here in the states.

Bursting High-Speed Photography by Alan Sailer

These amazing high speed photographs are the work of Alan Sailer, who is based in California, USA.

A normal photographic flash unit gives a flash that lasts around a thousandth of a second (a millisecond). However Alan's flash unit is much faster than this, and produces a flash of light around a microsecond (a millionth of a second). This allows him to freeze things that are happening extremely fast, and to give us a view of something that otherwise we would never see.

Check out the below gallery for a sample of these breathtaking images of exploding strawberries, glass ornaments, paintballs, tomatoes, crayons, walnuts and grapes.

Alan used an air rifle, a Nikon D40 camera and a homemade one-microsecond flash unit that cost around $300. For context, a typical camera flash is one-thousandth of a second, compared to the one-millionth of a second of this special flash unit.
